family entertainment / recommended places to visit
Aqualand Aquasur Waterpark
In Maspalomas the Aqualand Aquasur is a fantastic water park where you are sure to get wet! Try out the kamakaze, foam, and slower lazy river type slides and rides and enjoy the thrills and spills of the wave machines. There are plenty of great facilities within the park with a good selection of restaurants and cafes. There is enough to keep the whole family happy for a day out.
Sioux City
If you feel like playing at being a cowboy or cowgirl, then head for Sioux City, Canon del Aguila, San Agustin where you can watch bank robbers, horses and Can Can girls perform their routines. There is a bar and saloon where you can BBQ food. Of course the Sheriff does his rounds so be careful you don't get caught out by him! There are rodeos with shows that take place throughout the day. On a Friday evening there is country dancing also so if you feel like some toe tapping, this is your place.
Crocodile park
At Villa de Aguimes there is a crocodile park where you can meet many other animals, all of whom have been rescued and housed in this refuge. There are also some zebras and chimps for you to see. It is a worthy cause as any money raised in entrance fees goes towards keeping the shelter open. Feeding time is well worth seeing.
Reptilandia
As the name would suggest if you like seeing reptiles then this is the place for you. There are plenty of snakes of all descriptions and species, as well as tortoises, turtles and lizards including the magnificent Komodo Dragon! You can also see some spiders and monkeys. The park is close to Agaete.
Camel Rides
There are some exquisite sand dunes and one of the best ways to enjoy these is to ride on a camel. The journey normally takes half an hour and two passengers can sit on one camel at the same time. There really is no better way to see the protectedarea of Maspalomas and El Oasis where the remains of a salt water lagoon are evident.
Jeep Safari
The mountain range of the interior of the island, Mount Tejeda is magnificent and the best way to explore this area is by jeep. You will be taken on a thrilling journey through peaks, forests and valleys to see some of the most fantastic landscapes of the island.
Golf
There are several golf courses in Gran Canaria which are available to members or non members. The 18 hole courses you could try are at Maspalomas, Meloneras, Las Palmas, El Cortijo de Campo, Salobre, and Anfi Tauro near Mogan. All the clubs have excellent facilities, are in idyllic surroundings and some offer tennis courts and swimming as an alternative to golf. Most have bars and restaurants, a pro-shop, club hire and a driving range. Some have mountain scenery, whilst others also have sea views
