It's summer all year round in Vilamoura, a discerning holiday-makers heaven all in one location with everything from shops, to sandy beaches to sports to sunset cocktails and late night fun.
This outstanding resort, built to be a self sufficient destination for sun-seekers in the 1970s is still as glossy now as it was then and boasts an array of activity for all.
It is ideally located and offers superb accommodation of all types to suit all budgets and all needs and caters not just for tourists but also a large local population and seasonal population.
Within its 2,000 hectares you can find gorgeous scented pine forests, marshland, superb views, and sandy beaches stretching for miles, well manicured boulevards, golf courses a plenty (six in total), well laid out roads and every activity imaginable. At its heart is a vibrant, friendly and atmospheric hub.
Vilamoura is in the middle of the Algarve, around 15km from Faro airport and has grown over the last 20 years to now encompass Quarteira to the east, so much so that it is now one of Europe's largest beach resorts.
The town is built around the gleaming, 1,200 berth Vilamoura Marina which caters for the whole spectrum from small speedboats through to 40+ metre yachts.
Check out the harbourside and its chic bars, hotels and restaurants for a sunset aperitif and watch the jet-set polish and buff up their boats.
Catch a ride on one of the many excursions to Lagos to watch dolphins or try your hand at big game fishing.
If golfing gets you in the holiday swing then head out to Millenium, Laguna, Pinhal, Victoria and the Old Course all of which are world class.
Party-seekers are in paradise here with the biggest and best known nightclub, Kadoc, perfectly placed to play host to more than 7,000 clubbers. Take a tipple at Portuguese football star Luis Figo's Cafe Sete (Sete being 7, Figo's number) down by the marina before hitting the dance floor or flutter the night away at Vilamoura casino with around 20 tables and over 500 machines.
Lazy days spent on the beach are a must in Vilamoura which boasts a fine selection of superb sands on which to stretch out!
Praia da Marina is luxurious with its backdrop of big hotels and gets busy during peak months. It has a Blue Flag status for cleanliness and a host of facilities to ensure everyone has a fun-filled day on the beach.
The huge Praia da Falésia (cliff beach) on the western side of the marina stretches all the way to Olhos de Agua and is dominated by its sensational glowing red cliffs that border the beach. Excellent amenities and cleanliness prevail here.
Although lacking in major archeological or historical interest, Vilamoura is close to many of the Algarve's fascinating Moorish and Roman findings and a local museum pays homage to a site uncovered during the construction of the marina which is thought to date to Roman times.
The name Vilamoura means Moorish Town and at the Museu Cerra da Vila, foundations of baths and a mosaic can be seen.
This holiday haven, dedicated to the needs and desires of the traveling tourist is stylish, simple and has everything right at your fingertips - what better way to indulge yourself than a stay in Vilamoura?
