The resort of Stalis has seen quite a bit of development over recent years, but still manages to retain some of its original charm.
The beach is said to be one of the best on Crete, it has everything you could wish for in the way of water sports and is palm tree lined, with a pretty promenade looking out across the sea views and mountains in the distance. Stalis is a beautiful sandy cove but is exposed to the northerly breezes and can be breezy.
Huge waves break here, so if you like body boarding, this might be the place to try. Because the waves are so strong at times, only the very experienced swimmers should attempt to swim.
The beach has some water sports facilities and there are the usual bars, tavernas and restaurants. There are other beaches located to the east (Malia) and to the West (Hersonissos) which offer a change of scene if you feel like exploring.
In consequence of the development, there are now some nice tavernas and restaurants facing the beach, where you can take a mid day lunch enjoying the sun, or an evening meal watching the sun set.
Other nightlife consists of a couple of clubs where you can dance the night away, or some disco bars that play modern music.
Stalis is fast becoming an up market resort, with an idyllic beach and a friendly atmosphere.
