Sousse is a popular destination as it offers just about everything you could wish for. Enchanting beaches, fantastic climate, chic and modern shops and hotels, nice restaurants and more. Sousse was built by the Phoenicians back in the 9th century and it is the 3rd largest city in Tunisia. It has gained the well earned reputation as the Pearl of the Orient
It is in the olive growing region of Tunisia near to the Gulf of Hammamet on the north eastern coast. It is very well known for its fortified walls around the city, called the Medina. It also has the lighthouse, The Ribat fortress built for warrior monks, the Mosque and a Museum.
As you walk through the Medina you will find the narrow streets exciting and offering a variety of quirky shops and stalls which sell anything from food, fruit, vegetables, crafts and leather ware. You can also find more shops along the main Avenue of Habib Bourgiba where you will be left to browse in peace.
A nice way to see the city, and easy on the feet is in one of the horse-drawn carriages which are colourful and inviting, they are an affordable way to tour around if you feel like taking it easy.
The beaches at Sousse are delightful where you can find a variety of water sports, or you can sit at a pavement café in the marina and watch the boats going in or out.
Sousse is an ideal family resort, or ideal for people who are looking for something traditional and charming.
