Roses is located to the north of the Costa Bravian coast, less than 40 kilometres to the French border. It was once a quaint fishing port but over the years since the 1960's the resort has turned into a very profitable tourist resort. It is now a very popular place for holiday destinations and it has become a very up market resort.
Its delightful beaches attract people in droves, however, that does not mean that there is no space left on the beach for you. There are a mixture of rocky coves, shingle and sand beaches with magnificent views surrounding them of the cliffs, beyond which lies the Mediterranean Sea and the Costa Brava coastline.
The marina displays wealth and prosperity with some exclusive small yachts sitting alongside the fishing boats. Take a walk around the marina and enjoy the sights, old and new, perhaps popping into one of the new trendy wine bars.
History lovers will enjoy a visit to the citadel, a Gothic castle built in the 17th century with its ruins and, which provides evidence of the first inhabitants back to the Megalithic era. It is just outside of the main town but if you take your camera you will be provided with some magnificent views out towards the Pyrenean Mountains and the Bay of Roses.
For the followers of nature, there are some natural beauty areas, namely the Creus Cap Peninsula and the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Emporda. These lagoons provide a natural habitat for storks, and a wild animal recovery centre which is aided by Barcelona Zoo.
Whatever your age, whatever your taste there is something for everyone at Roses.
