Rhodes Town has just about everything you will need from a holiday destination. It has beaches, parks, archaeology, mythology, all mixed in with a diverse combination of architectural designs and much, much more.
The capital city has its own beach called Psaropoula, which is a shingle beach but kept well maintained and clean. From Rhodes Town you can easily reach some of the other destinations of Rhodes, such as Faliraki, Lindos and Lardos. The public transport service is excellent so even if you don't have your own transport, you can get to the other places conveniently and which are easily affordable.
If you holiday in Rhodes Town you are sure to want much more than just the beach, so you will have a wonderful choice for exploration. The old town has much culture and heritage, as you walk through its narrow streets you will see a range of styles from Byzantine, Middle Eastern and Greek. The old town is fortified and is full of sightseeing options such as the Castle, the Mansion, a Harbour and churches.
The new part of the town is contemporary and full of boutiques, modern shops and the typical buzz of a tourist town.
You will find a great choice of places to eat, restaurants serving both traditional Greek and international dishes, fish restaurants, fast food establishments and many bars and tavernas. You have so much choice you will spend hours deciding.
The town's museums always attract high numbers of tourists each year who come to see its fine exhibitions. The Decorative Arts Museum and the Archaeological Museum are interesting and well worth visiting. The Modern Arts Museum has some contemporary exhibitions. The Palace of the Grand Masters is magnificent and no visit to Rhodes Town would be complete without a visit to the Palace.
The children might love a day out at the Aquarium which is just outside the town. You will see a fine variety of marine creatures such as turtles, dolphins, sharks and much more.
Culturally you will find a theatre with performances throughout the year by some international entertainers. There is also a theatre of dance where you might like to watch an evening of dance performance.
For additional things to do the new town of Rhodes has a cinema and a casino. There are plenty of pleasant parks where you can sit and enjoy a picnic, read a book or simply chill out. Rodini Park is one of these, landscaped and kept impeccably tidy it is a perfect place to spend some time. The park has a small playground for young children as well as some peacocks that amber around quite happily.
So for a destination which has something for everyone, Rhodes town ticks the right boxes.
