Puerto Rico is an ideal family resort, not least because of its breathtaking beach which is well sheltered, and lies between rugged headlands to each side.
The beach is where most day time activity takes place and there are plenty of facilities available. Just a short walk from the beach there is a lido which you can use for a small charge. It is situated inside landscaped gardens, making it a very pleasant and attractive place to spend some time. Nearby you will find a pitch & putt green and a few more shops selling most of those holiday souvenirs and essentials. The atmosphere around the place is magical, picture sitting in the exquisite surroundings having a drink and chilling out, and letting the day while away. There is also mini-golf, tennis courts, a bowling alley, children's playground, boutiques and supermarkets to keep you busy.
Apart from the beach the resort has two small marinas where you can take some time having a gentle stroll, admiring the yachts which berth here and absorbing the ambiance and aura of the place. You can take a boat excursion from here to see the wonderful coastline which makes up Gran Canaria.
For a day out you could visit the Aqua Park which is situated to one end of the largest Commercial Centre in Puerto Rico. There are 3 other commercial centres which all have a good selection of boutiques, shops, bars and restaurants. For more authenticity you will find the wares sold in the bazaars more to your taste. You might just find that gift you've been searching for.
One thing to be warned about are the touts which hang around, they are part and parcel of tourism unfortunately, but the Police are doing their best to eradicate them so they don't become too much of a nuisance to tourists.
