The Playa Blanca on Lanzarote is renowned for its beaches. They are an array of gentle sand which is very safe for children and families. The main beach of Playa Blanca has a Blue Flag for its cleanliness and facilities, which include sun beds, parasols, toilets and cafes.
There are water sports for those who like a challenge, such as jet ski-ing, scuba diving and wind surfing. If you prefer something more sedate you can go for a horsehide or hire a cycle and explore the area on a bike.
Playa Blanca is situated at the most southern point of the island, about 15 minutes drive from the airport and slightly longer from Arrecife centre. Building development is taking place all the time in Playa Blanca but this does not stop its popularity. Plans for a new golf course are taking place which will make it an ideal place to go for a golfing weekend or longer holiday.
It is possible to catch a ferry across to a sister Canary Island, Fuerteventura, which takes only 45 minutes. There are ferries every day and the port is well serviced and worth a visit, even to take a look at some of the vessels berthed there. There are some rumours that the port is to be enlarged, so as to allow large ships such as the QE2 to dock inside the port instead of dropping anchor off the coast. The views across to Fuerteventura are spellbinding, your camera will not stop taking pictures.
If you are feeling very brave and courageous you can visit the nearby Papagayo beach, where you can get back to nature and skinny dip or sun bathe nude (don't forget the sun cream) as this beach is also a popular naturist beach.
Take a stroll along the promenade and if you are in need of some refreshments you can take your pick at one of the many fine bars or cafes. The typical souvenir shops you would expect are also scattered along the promenade so you will be able to buy those holiday gifts. If you walk along the promenade from one end to the other you will find it connects to both sides of the resort.
One of newest developments in Playa Blanca, towards the east of the resort is the Marina Rubicon where you will see a fantastic new marina with some very top class restaurants and boutiques. You can have an aperitif and watch the hustle and bustle of passers by.
The majority of the nightlife takes place in the bars at the Avenida Maritima and there are some clubs just behind the port in Punta Limones. You will find a selection of Irish Pubs, English Pubs, and the Sports Bar and restaurant where you can taste a selection of their Mexican food.
If you are based here on holiday, you will have easy access to some of the other attractions and resorts on Lanzarote, so you can combine sightseeing with relaxation. Here you will truly feel on holiday.
