If you've come to Crete looking for nightlife, then Malia is the place for you. It attracts single groups and young people looking for a party time. It is a lively resort where you won't find time to be bored.
The beach area is buzzing, there are plenty of water sports and beach side bars playing loud music. Sun beds stand alongside each other in rows, waiting for you lap up the sun. The beach of Malia is very popular, despite being exposed to the breezes. There are plenty of facilities, sun beds, parasols and some water sports, and because of its location it can get quite busy during the summer period. There are a choice of tavernas, restaurants and cafes.
If you feel like escaping to a quieter beach, try the beach at Potamos which is at the eastern end of Malia beach.
It is one of the club capitals of Crete, with at least 8 well known clubs where you will find plenty of choice whatever your music taste. There are resident DJ's along with international DJ's and most clubs continue until the early hours. There is also a wide selection of music bars that play the latest sounds.
Away from the beach area and into the old village, you will find some charming streets with interesting houses. Walking around the cobbled streets will allow you to switch back in time, to days of olden Crete. The atmosphere in the village is charming and friendly.
The Palace of Malia is a worthwhile attraction to visit for lovers of history and culture. There are many ruins to see dating back to the Minoan era.
Malia is recommended for people who enjoy a busy and thrilling atmosphere, where life rarely passes by quietly.
