For people who love Medieval history, you will find plenty to entertain you at Lindos. It is also one of the best archaeological spots that Rhodes has to offer, including an acropolis and other monuments.
It is situated some 45 kilometres distance from Rhodes Town, but its architectural influences are very similar.
It has buildings and monuments dating back to Gothic, Middle Eastern and Byzantine times and has many different styles. It is a fortified Town and the evidence of ruins is probably the first things you will see as you enter the town. It is believed that the fortifications were built around the 14th century.
The 15th century buildings have managed to keep their heritage, as nothing is allowed to be changed on the buildings they have a preservation order which has kept them their originality. Through its small cobbled streets you will find that there are no cars allowed, only bikes and vans delivering to the shops. It is possible to hire a donkey which will carry you up to the acropolis. There are also no hotels in this part of the town. Watch out though as you walk through the Town, the donkeys have been known to foul (but the streets are cleaned on a regular basis).
Nightlife is pretty sedate in comparison to other resorts like Faliraki, but there are a good selection of restaurants and tavernas where you can enjoy a nice meal in a pleasant ambiance.
