Travel Guide

A holiday in Hersonissos is all about fun! It is a resort suited to the adventure seekers, or those looking for a beach and sun packed holiday. Families will love it too, as there is plenty going on both day and night.

It is possible to escape the noise and bustle of the crowds by coming away from the main resort area and visiting the quieter villages. There is more to Hersonissos than just adventure and beaches: take a look at any of the small villages that surround the main area and you will find a piece of original Crete. The villages have typical antiquated houses situated right on the roads, but an atmosphere of calm and tranquility. Visit one of the tavernas and take some time just to enjoy the surroundings, where you can relax in a get away from it allstyle. The old part of Hersonissos still retains some of its originality and charm.

Back to the main town, Hersonissos is busy and bustling. It is well serviced by public transport and taxis which are available on demand. These days the newer part of the town is where you will find an abundance of cafes, restaurants, bars, disco bars and even typical English pubs selling pints!

For the beach and sun worshippers amongst you, Hersonissos has 3 beaches which are all very lively, but the sea is shallow so is safe for young children. There are plenty of water sports for you to have a go at. The beach front is well serviced with cafes and tavernas providing pretty much anything that you could wish to eat.

If you decide you would like some sun without the sand, there is an Aqua Park at Star Beach you could visit. For the thrill seekers you will find your fun on the Kamikaze flume or the bungee jump tower. Maybe only for the brave and courageous!

The port area is up and coming: with some trendy restaurants and tavernas which are a little bit more chic than some in the newer part of town.

For those who enjoy the history of Crete there are still excavations going on around the areas of Old Hersonissos, where you might see any one of many displays of early Minoan civilisation.

Hersonissos has something to suit all ages and all tastes.
