A holiday to Limassol is not just about sun, sand and sea. You will find yourselves with lots to do, possibly 2 weeks here will not be enough time.
Limassol is a huge City, and as such you will find a wide variety of shops, history, culture and gastronomy.
The beach called Ladies Beach has a very long, palm tree lined promenade along which you will find a vast selection of shops, bars, clubs and restaurants. It provides plenty of facilities including water sports such as para gliding and wind surfing. Because the beach is so long it rarely gets over crowded so you will always be able to find a good spot for sun bathing.
If you wish to go shopping you will find plenty of shops to browse in, where the proprietors will be more than happy to sell you something. There are jewellery shops, camera shops, electrical shops, leather shops selling bags, shoes and clothes as well as ornamental bric a brac shops. There is a good range of designer boutiques selling the latest fashions along with a few departmental stores.
You will find an abundance of fine restaurants in Limassol which serve menus for all tastes and pockets. These include traditional Cypriot cuisine, international cuisine as well as some fast food establishments.
Limassol is steeped in history, even dating back to the days of Richard the Lionheart at Colossi Castle and in its grounds. Here we give a selection of some of the museums you may find interesting and might like to visit:
Lemesos Archeological Museum with Neolithic and Roman displays.
The Municipal Folk Art Museum with some fine exhibitions of 19th and 20th century.
The Kourion Archeological Museum with 9th - 18th century artifacts.
The Natural History Museum with displays of life on Cyprus centuries ago.
The Cyprus Wine Museum where you can see how wine is made.
During July Limassol usually plays host to the International Music Festival which takes place at the Kourion theatre. Here you will listen and see different types of music styles performed by a variety of performers.
There are theme nights held at some of the pubs and bars, such as Burns Night, or Irish evenings at one of the Irish pubs. Limassol has a lively nightlife with many places to dance the night away. Most clubs don't open until midnight so before you go to a club you can enjoy a meal or drink at one of Limassol's many establishments. One of the popular clubs is Basement where you can take part in their regular foam parties. Whispers bar is also renowned for its foam parties. Another club called Replay plays purely Greek pop music.
Limassol holds its carnival in September, this is an event that you will enjoy for its colour and laid back atmosphere, where everyone locals and tourists alike enjoy a good celebration.
