Kalo Horio is a pretty, tranquil village situated a few kilometres south of Agios Nikolaos.
It really is a seaside resort with a beautiful bay of clean sand. Ideal for families with children as the sea is completely calm, crystal clear and has been awarded the European Blue Flag.
There are some facilities such as sun beds and parasols to hire, and a few beach snack bars.
Surprisingly, in the centre of the village there is an internet café and a supermarket which stocks essentials.
The village has a charm which is in keeping with traditional Crete, it has remained relatively untouched by tourism. Surrounded by lush, green hills the scenery is quite magnificent.
The area has an interesting archaeological site, Vrocastro which has found some ruins from the Minoan Period.
All in all, Kalo Horio is suited to those looking for a quiet resort, ideal as a base to explore other places on Crete. You will be able to unwind and recharge your batteries here.
