Kalives has a charm which Crete is all about: a friendly village with white houses set amongst narrow streets where a visitor is always welcomed.
The protected sandy beach at Kalives is not exposed to the meltemia. It is a popular beach offering crystal clear waters and accommodation facilities, sun beds, parasols and some water sports activities. There are some tavernas and bars to take your lunch or dinner. You can reach the beach quite easy by the regular public bus service from Chania. From the beach you can see the White Mountains in the background. The eastern end of the beach is situated right in the village of Kalives, where you can integrate with the locals.
Life in Kalives is relaxing and tranquil, just what you might be wanting from a holiday. There are two fine sandy beaches which provide enough relaxing activities to occupy you during the day. By night the village becomes a bit more active, when the tavernas and bars start to fill up with locals and tourists.
Around the village square there are just enough little shops, cafes and restaurants to keep you entertained, or where you can sit out under the canopies enjoying a coffee or two. The village ladies gather around, gossiping and telling stories - typical of village life really. The village church is quite interesting, a cool and sedate place to have a quiet reflection.
If you feel like taking a short walk you will come across the river, don't forget to take some bread to feed the ducks who await visitors with glee.
Surrounding the area you will find views of mountains, citrus groves, and sea. What more could you ask for on holiday, it doesn't get much better than this.
