Gouvia is a cosmopolitan town, thanks to its marina which berths some luxurious yachts owned by some famous celebrities. It is only a short distance from Corfu town but you would never know this as it lies in a secluded and private spot.
There are a few beaches at Gouvia: all are safe and ideal for families and small children and the main beach has a number of water sports. Because there are quite a few little coves, diving and snorkelling is also popular here.
If you get tired of the beaches, you could take a short walk into the village centre where there are plenty of shops selling items such as leather, lace, crafts, jewellery and anything typically touristy. You could catch a bus into Corfu Town where you will find even more choice.
Gouvia has some interesting history, evidence of which is still present today. It was originally a town built upon an old Venetian harbour. Lovers of history will delight in some of the traditional buildings around the town centre and its outskirts.
Gouvia has quite a lively nightlife, with a selection of tavernas, bars and clubs. If you wish to find something a bit more authentic there is also a good choice of fine restaurants serving traditional Greek menus such as moussaka, stuffed vine leaves and, not forgetting Retsina, a locally produced wine.
It is possible to find some interesting walks up in the hills which surround the resort. Nature lovers will enjoy some of the walks that are in the area, through pine forests and hills along the coastal paths. Here you might see some of the fauna and flora that is unique to Corfu. The fragrant smell of the cypress and citrus groves are truly delightful.
Gouvia is a destination that has something to suit everyone, from clean beaches to historical interest as well as a chic and pleasant atmosphere. It is simply a perfect place to spend your holiday.
