For those who are wishing to find a peaceful and relaxing retreat, Fodele is the place for you. It sits in the magical surroundings of olive and citrus groves, so the aromas are delightful.
The two beaches are sandy and sheltered and provide a quiet place to simply enjoy a good book, or listen to some personal music under the glorious blue sky. There are some water sports on one of the beaches for those who are seeking some adventure and the beaches are well served by some bars and tavernas, just enough to provide some essential food and drink.
In the village and approx 2kms away from the beach front there are some fine restaurants and tavernas and the nightlife is restricted to these places, ideal if you are looking for something traditional with plenty of atmosphere.
This village is said to be the birthplace of a famous Cretan artist called Domenikos Theotokopoulos, or El Greco as his nickname suggests. In the village there are some well placed statues and monuments which are dedicated to him.
For lovers of culture and history there is the Monastery a short distance out of the village, as well as being a pleasant walk in natural surroundings, the Monastery walk provides an opportunity to observe the wildlife which lives in the forest and the views of the mountains in the distance.
You will find this traditional and friendly village welcomes you warmly.
