Describing Es Castell is not difficult. If you imagine a small seaside resort, topped with a lovely beach, a colourful marina and its delightful harbour then you will know what we mean.
Es Castell has become very popular in recent years and its closeness to the Capital of Menorca, Mahon is a bonus for when you might tire of the small village then you won't have far to go for a better choice of facilities.
The village is packed with history and it has a very British flavour, thanks to the main central square once being barracks for the British Army who at one time occupied Menorca. Around this square you will find a delightful array of shops, restaurants and bars to keep you entertained. There is a large clock tower as a centre piece and a couple of times a week there are market stalls selling typical tourist souvenirs, and some with local crafts. There is also a strange coloured town hall which is a famous landmark. If you want to learn more about the British Occupation in Menorca, you can visit the Museum here which reveals all.
The Fiesta Saint Jaume takes place on 24 & 25 July, this is a typical Menorcan festival with lots of music, singing and dancing. The evenings are closed with a spectacular firework display and are enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
If you feel like getting away from the crowds you can head off to one of the little rocky coves, beyond which you will come across beautiful sandy beaches and enjoy some time just relaxing and enjoying sunbathing or swimming.
Don't forget the magnificent Marina too, where you can dine al fresco, or take a drink and just admire the yachts in the harbour whilst watching the sun go down, the sunset reflecting in the water which lies calmly in the harbour.
