You will find a piece of traditional Crete at Elounda. Despite becoming a busy and popular resort in recent years, it has still managed to retain a good deal of its authenticity and charm.
It is surrounded by the calm waters of the Gulf of Mirabello and The Gulf of Elounda, which is an ideal place to find tranquility and peace, at the peak of Elounda you can see the Island of Spinalonga in the distance on a clear day. The views are excellent and very panoramic.
Elounda is a traditional fishing village and has a variety of water sports available including scuba diving and water skiing. Just a short walk away from the local shops, restaurants, bars and tavernas you will find something to suit your tastes.
The beach has all the facilities you could wish for, although in the summer the beach can get quite crowded at times. Around the harbour area you will find a good selection of tavernas and bars, along with a handful of souvenir shops where you can always buy that holiday gift to take home.
Nightlife is quite good as there is a selection of modern bars and many fine restaurants. If you feel like dancing there are some clubs around the harbour, along with some disco bars which play modern music and stay open until very late.
Elounda is an up and coming resort with plenty to do and within easy access to some of Crete's magnificent sights.
