Travel Guide

Blanes is still a working resort: here you can spend some time watching the fishermen bringing in their catch of the day and see how it all happens. You can watch the fish auction which takes place, just a short while after the fishermen have brought in the fish. The locals gather around and everyone takes part in this event.

Spanish and British alike visit this resort with its up market atmosphere. The main road does not go through the town so it is less busy with traffic than some other resorts. There is some development continuing here, perhaps because it is within easy reach to Barcelona, but that does not spoil the atmosphere.

Blanes has two very nice botanical gardens where you can take a wander around and admire the plantlife that grows here. If you feel like something more active, you could take a walk up the mountain of Sant Juan, but don't forget your camera as it provides a spectacular view.

There are some ancient buildings like the Church of Santa Maria which began construction in the 14th century and, there is the 15th century gothic fountain which is unusual.

The main beach is large enough for everyone, but has a steep shelve into the sea in some places. Along the promenade there are plenty of places to get something to eat or drink and often you will find market stalls selling souvenirs or fruit grown locally.

At night you will find enough activity taking place to keep you busy. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and discos for you to take your pick of where to go and what to do.
