A charming village that still retains some of its traditional character as it was once a small fishing village.
The resort has seen many changes by way of further developments recently, but don't let this put you off, the affect on the resort has made it more up market.
There are some good fish restaurants where you can choose the catch of the dayif you wish, coupled with some nice wine to compliment your meal, what more could you want? For this reason it is very popular with tourists, particularly from Scandinavia.
Because the streets are very busy and narrow, sometimes there can be traffic jams, so it is not the best place in the world to try to park. That aside, it is well worth visiting so you can absorb the Canarian charm that goes hand in hand with this resort. Locals will make you feel very welcome, they won't speak English but you can always practice your Spanish on them.
If you walk along the Promenade you will reach Patalavaca which has a very nice sandy beach, bustling with beach side bars and cafes. There is also a quaint old harbour to pass the time of day if you feel like a leisurely stroll in the sun and dream about Patalavaca of days gone by.
The surrounding scenery is very rugged here, one must not forget that Gran Canaria is volcanic, something which is very obvious from the cliffs which stand tall around the resort.
