Agia Pelagia is a traditional Cretian resort that manages to attract tourists to its setting again and again.
It is a quiet resort and the only things to disturb your peace at night are the bars, cafes, restaurants and tavernas. Because the eateries all face out towards the sea, here you can sit outside on the terraces watching the sun go down while you relax. There are no wild discos or clubs here to interrupt your chill out time.
The resort has a good variety of shops and even an internet café. There are also car hire facilities and a bank, along with the typical souvenir shops. There are also a few supermarkets and pretty much a shop that sells anything for your holiday that you might need. It is all close to hand should the need arise.
The beach area is pleasant and sandy where you can hire all manner of beach equipment as well as participate in some water sports. The beach does get pretty crowded in high season and as it is rather narrow you may find it difficult to find your place for sun bathing. There are some bays nearby which are more peaceful and less crowded.
The bay of Agia Pelagia is protected from the meltemiabreezes and is a lovely sandy bay and there are a variety of water sports offered. You can enjoy a swim in the calm crystal blue waters, where the sea can be quite warm.
If you take the pedestrian footpath along the side of the bay you will shortly arrive at the main sandy beach and the popular resort of Agia Pelagia, which is more cosmopolitan than the bay, and offers a variety of tavernas, restaurants, bars and cafes. There is also a good variety of water sports available. Agia Pelagia is said to be one of the best beaches in Northern Crete.
As you would expect from a traditional resort there is a pretty little church in the village centre which is worth visiting and easy to reach by foot.
